Ingredients

1 pound bulk Italian sausage1 large sweet onion, chopped3 garlic cloves, minced1 tablespoon olive oil1 can (28 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained1 can (6 ounces) Italian tomato paste1/2 cup water2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley1 tablespoon brown sugar1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar2 teaspoons dried basil1 teaspoon salt1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground pepperHot cooked pasta of your choice

Preparation

In a large saucepan, cook the sausage, onion and garlic in oil over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain.

Stir in the tomatoes, tomato paste, water, parsley, brown sugar, vinegar and seasonings. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 1-1/2 hours or until flavors are blended. Serve with pasta. Freeze option: Freeze cooled sauce in freezer containers. To use, partially thaw in refrigerator overnight. Heat through in a saucepan, stirring occasionally and adding a little water if necessary.
