Ingredients
Ice
2 oz. Gosling’s Black Seal Rum, or other dark rum
3 oz. ginger beer
Squeeze of fresh lime juice, to taste
Lime wheel, for garnish
Preparation
Step 1Fill a highball glass with ice, then add rum and ginger beer. Add fresh lime juice to taste. Garnish as desired and serve immediately.
The flavor combination was so good in fact that Goslings (who were by then also producing their own ginger beer) trademarked the drink in 1991. Officially, to be able to legally call your drink a Dark ‘N’ Stormy, you must use Gosling’s Black Seal Rum. Unofficially, the name “Dark ‘N’ Stormy” was coined by someone remarking that it was the color of a sky only a fool or a dead man would sail under.
